Σύμφωνα με την υπηρεσία προστασίας παιδιών, ο «θραύστης του συστήματος» είναι το άτομο που δεν μπορεί να ενταχθεί στις δομές που συστήνει το κράτος για να διαχειριστεί την αντικοινωνική συμπεριφορά. Η 9χρονη Μπένι είναι αυτό ακριβώς. Ένα βαθιά τραυματισμένο παιδί, του οποίου η μητέρα και μια σειρά ιδρυμάτων, παρένθετων οικογενειών, ακόμα και νοσοκομείων αδυνατούν να ελέγξουν. Η Μπένι παθαίνει κρίσεις, βίαια ξεσπάσματα, βρίζει τους πάντες, αυτοτραυματίζεται και τρέχει διαρκώς «από κάτι». Ο εκπαιδευτής της υπηρεσίας που την αναλαμβάνει, ο Μίσα, θα προσπαθήσει να κάνει τη διαφορά, πάνω όμως σε κάτι που πολλοί ήδη απέτυχαν.
